The Quality Asphalt Paving Awards will be accepting nominations September 1, 2026 – October 16, 2026.

To apply, PAIKY members must submit their project nomination through a Google Form.

As part of the application, members will be asked to submit the following: 

Contact Information & Project Information

Project Narratives detailing complexities, difficulties, and work zone safety efforts

Completed Quality Control Data Table

Project Photos that show project overview, mat texture/segregation, joints, complexities, or other factors

*Application Materials will be made available on or before September 1, 2026.

Evaluation Criteria and Scoring

All nominations are reviewed and rated by the evaluation team which consists of individuals from organizations such as PAIKY, KYTC, KTC and retired industry members.  They will narrow the entries down to the top three projects in each category.  The top-rated finalists will then be visited for field evaluation which will look at overall appearance, smoothness, uniform texture, joint construction, etc.

The members of the evaluation team will assign a numerical value based on the maximum number of points available.  The total for each project will add up to 100 points.  Scoring each project will allow the reviewers to rank the projects and ultimately decide on the top three that will be evaluated in person.  In the case where we receive three or fewer submittals, the project must meet a minimum score of 85 points to be considered for an award. 

Evaluation Scoring:

Narrative explaining why the project should be considered (15 Points)

Safety efforts for employees and motoring public (10 Points)

Mat and Project Appearance (based on photo submissions (15 Points)

Mixture Quality based on quality control data submitted (25 Points)

Segregation as judged by close-up photos (10 Points)

Longitudinal and Transverse joints as judged by submitted photos (10 Points)

Complexity and Difficulty based on submitted narrative and photos (15 Points)
